CD Review: Alice in Grooveland

Alice_In_Grooveland_CD-700x460Alice in Grooveland – “Skyline” – out now – Crucial Cat Records

Hear, hear: Alice in Grooveland’s debut album, “Skyline” is out now!

Alice is: Andrew Myers on keyboard and all compositions, Nick Bradshaw on drums, Linas Benas on alto sax and Leslee Booth on 6-string bass.

A London band, Alice blends jazz, funk and Latin tones as the album cover quite rightly says!

This promises to be a cool mini album; there is not one track that one can extract as best, that’s because all 5 tracks are just right, unique in their own right. Listening to the opening one: “Doing time”, for example, the upbeat tempo lifts in a crescendo, but then track 2 comes along, “Tobias is back”, with Linas’ perfect sax sounds, a perfect sound for a cool summer night…

The title track, Skyline, is 11.22 long. Not one second is wasted.   A gentle tune where the band shows how good they are at grooving together.

We are looking forward to hearing more upbeat funky stuff from this quartet. Catch them, if you can, playing some of South London’s cool scenes (Soho, Brixton and more).
